In yet another issue Phil Mogg of UFO - one of Sounds frequent pin-ups - lays down the law: 

Unclear if this is an ahead-of-its-time(-for-UK) pro-boxers sentiment or simply a belief in going commando style under your spandex metalgod leggings or leather jeans 

This picture has appeared in Hardly Baked nearly as often as in Sounds at this point

UFO were on the cover of Sounds a ridiculous number of times - at least four times in end of '70s, early '80s heyday-of-sorts for the band.

Sounds was a pretty sexist paper (the John Peel column alone is gross - not even hiding in plain sight his proclivities, but flaunting them).

But they did seem to maintain an equal opportunity thing with the scantily dressed pix of both genders - reflective I think of an earthier sensibility than NME or Melody Maker, rooted in a feeling for rock as a below-the-belt kind of music.

Sounds again, of course - what was it with their compulsion to show hard rockers with their kit off? 

True, they went equally for salacious innuendos and cheesecake pictures of New Wave babes like Gaye Advert and Debby Harry

Perhaps it's just equal-opportunity earthiness

Readers responded in similar ways too - there was a whole running thing of letters drooling over Peter Perrett

Perhaps more honest than say, NME, about the element of concupiscence at work in rock fandom

That dainty, modesty-covering frond reminds me of the Harry G. Theaker-illustrated version of The Water-Babies, which my granny had a copy of 

Oddly the original illustrations by J. Noel Paton, despite being done at the height of Victorianism, are less coy

Or was it this Edwardian edition my granny had?

What was it with Sounds's fixation on showing rock stars in the nuddy?

Ooh another one pops up from Sounds Clips - not nuddy but nearly nuddy.  Plus a suggestive caption.

Yes that is Angus Young of AC/DC in a skimpy, almost bikini-like set of briefs in an exotic pattern. The caption reads "the things I can do with a Bounty bar".
